MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 12-year-old girl is recovering after being shot while sleeping in her Oakhaven home early Friday morning.

The incident occurred in the 4500 block of Sumner Wells Road around 4 a.m.

The girl sustained a gunshot wound to the foot and was transported to Le Bonheur Hospital. She is expected to recover.

Police found three 9mm shell casings in the front yard, with bullet holes visible in the windows.

A concerned neighbor, choosing to remain anonymous, stated that the targeted house has been a source of trouble for some time. Another neighbor mentioned an increase in arguments, shootings, and car thefts since new residents moved in.

According to data from the Memphis Public Safety Data Hub, police have responded to 28 calls within two blocks of the home this year, including incidents of breaking and entering, assault, vehicle theft, and weapons violations.
