In a tragic incident in Centerville, Texas, a Montgomery County deputy lost his life while another deputy and an inmate were seriously injured in a crash, as reported by the sheriff’s office. The fallen officer, Deputy Charles Rivette, was on duty at the time of the accident.
The Incident
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on a Wednesday night when Deputy Rivette and Deputy James Francis were transporting an inmate back to Montgomery County from Oklahoma. According to authorities, the vehicle driven by Deputy Francis collided with a Freightliner truck on southbound I-45. The impact of the crash resulted in Deputy Rivette being ejected from the vehicle and subsequently struck by another vehicle. The patrol vehicle then veered into northbound lanes and was struck by two 18-wheelers.
Casualties and Injuries
Tragically, Deputy Rivette was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Deputy Francis and the inmate, identified as Daniel Baxley, sustained severe injuries and were airlifted to the hospital. Baxley, aged 37, remains under hospital care with scheduled surgeries and continued testing. Deputy Francis, though awake, also suffered serious injuries.
