Severe storms struck Mundelein, Illinois, on Tuesday night, resulting in a partial roof collapse at a local apartment complex. The incident, which occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m., left dozens of residents displaced and prompted emergency response efforts from the Mundelein Fire Department.

Damage and Response

Upon arrival at the scene, fire crews discovered a 30′ x 30′ section of the roof blown off at the southeast corner of the two-story apartment building located at 32 Washington Blvd. The collapse not only compromised the structural integrity of the roof but also caused damage to the front facade of the building. As a precautionary measure, residents were evacuated until authorities deemed it safe to re-enter the premises and retrieve essential belongings.

Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries among the residents. However, one occupant later sought medical attention for arm pain sustained from being struck by debris during the collapse. They were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In total, 59 residents residing in the 21 units of the apartment complex were displaced as a result of the storm-induced damage. The American Red Cross was contacted to provide support and assistance, particularly for those individuals who did not have alternative accommodations with family or friends.

The Village of Mundelein Building Department conducted assessments and determined the building to be uninhabitable due to the extent of the damage sustained. This designation underscores the severity of the situation and the immediate need for relocation and recovery efforts for affected residents.
