A semi truck teetered on the brink of disaster as it remained hanging off the Second Street Bridge connecting southern Indiana and Louisville, Ky., following a dramatic rescue on Friday afternoon.
Dramatic Rescue Efforts
First responders swiftly swung into action, rappelling down to the semi’s cab where a female driver was trapped inside. The driver was safely rescued around 12:30 p.m. amidst a tense atmosphere.

Louisville Fire Chief Brian O’Neill praised the rescue team’s efforts, highlighting their dedication and training. Approximately 30 firefighters, alongside EMS and Louisville Metro police, collaborated in the rescue operation.
Crash Details Unfold
Louisville Metro Police disclosed that a preliminary investigation suggested the semi’s tractor-trailer and three other vehicles were involved in a crash, leading to the precarious situation on the bridge. However, the exact cause of the crash remains unclear.
Injury Report
Two individuals from one of the involved vehicles sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital. Fortunately, the semi-truck driver, although hospitalized, appeared to be in stable condition.
Bridge Closure and Uncertainty
The Clark Memorial Bridge, encompassing both sides of the crossing, was shut down in the aftermath of the incident. Louisville Metro Police indicated uncertainty regarding the duration of the closure, suggesting it might persist until Saturday morning.

Sysco, the company affiliated with the dangling truck, expressed gratitude towards the swift response of first responders. In a statement, a Sysco spokesperson emphasized safety as a priority and pledged cooperation with law enforcement’s investigation.
