Indianapolis, March 3 – A 27-year-old man has been apprehended and accused of murder in connection with a fatal shooting incident on Indy’s near west side earlier this week.
Details of the Incident
On Tuesday, just before 7 p.m., authorities responded to a neighborhood near Belmont, close to George Washington High School. They discovered the body of 40-year-old Randy White, who had succumbed to gunshot wounds at the scene.
Identification of Suspect
Thanks to cooperation from the local community, law enforcement was able to identify the alleged perpetrator as 27-year-old Alexander Cross. IMPD Officer Shayonna Gray emphasized the significance of community involvement in solving such cases, highlighting the indispensable role of public cooperation in law enforcement efforts.
Affidavit Details
According to the affidavit related to the case, witnesses informed the police that the victim and suspect had engaged in an altercation several weeks prior. This altercation reportedly occurred after Cross was evicted from his residence for violating probation terms by carrying a firearm.
Although Cross admitted to firing the fatal shots, he claimed self-defense. However, upon his arrest, he was found in possession of the murder weapon. Additionally, both the firearm and Cross’ attire were observed to be covered in gold paint. Notably, the victim was discovered lying next to a can of gold spray paint, suggesting a potential link to the altercation.
Legal Proceedings
At the time of the homicide, Cross had two active arrest warrants against him. Court records indicate that he had failed to appear for scheduled hearings in both Johnson County and Wabash County in January. The Wabash County case pertained to felony drug charges.
Presently, Alexander Cross is being held without bond, awaiting the formal filing of charges by the prosecutor’s office.
Community Cooperation in Crime Resolution
The swift resolution of this homicide case underscores the pivotal role of community cooperation in aiding law enforcement agencies. By actively engaging with authorities and providing crucial information, members of the public contribute significantly to maintaining public safety and ensuring justice for victims and their families.
