Chandler, Arizona: Firefighters undertook a daring rescue mission on Monday to save a woman who had fallen 15 feet down a dry well in Chandler the previous night. The incident occurred in an open field near the intersection of Arizona Avenue and Pecos Road, where the woman had inadvertently fallen into the hole after passing through a chain-link fence.

Dramatic Rescue Operation

Despite the presence of a ladder inside the well, which was only a few feet wide, the woman was unable to extricate herself due to her injuries. Chandler Fire Battalion Chief Carlos Vargas remarked that the woman remained conscious throughout the ordeal and provided assistance during the rescue operation.

Chief Vargas stated, She never lost consciousness, [was] able to talk us through the whole operation and that’s when we upgraded the call to a technical rescue incident and put a plan together to make the rescue. Following a meticulous 90-minute operation, firefighters successfully rescued the woman and transferred her to an ambulance waiting on the scene. She was then transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for hip and leg injuries sustained during the fall.

Chief Vargas expressed uncertainty regarding the circumstances leading to the woman’s fall, noting, We’re not sure why, but she decided to stay in the hole and call us this morning. Additionally, authorities are puzzled by the presence of another individual who accompanied the woman but whose identity and motives remain undisclosed.

Responding to inquiries about potential negligence by a construction company responsible for the site, Chandler Fire confirmed that no wrongdoing had been detected in securing the area. The chain-link fence surrounding the well was believed to be sufficient to prevent unauthorized access.
