An Illinois man, Tonatiu Tony Moreno, faces charges after allegedly firing shots at Hoffman Estates police officers last month.
Incident Details
Around 1:01 a.m. on Feb. 26, a Hoffman Estates police officer was approached near 10 W. Golf Rd. following a reported threat. An employee of a business had asked a man and woman to leave. Upon the man’s departure, he allegedly returned to his vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and threatened the employee. Spotting the officer, the man fled the area on foot.
Shots Fired
More officers arrived, and the suspect was spotted across Golf Road. Allegedly, he fired multiple shots at the officers and the victim. Officers chose not to return fire, preventing injuries. However, a vehicle and a local business sustained damage.
Arrest and Charges
Following an investigation, Tonatiu Tony Moreno, from Carpentersville, was identified as the suspect. He was apprehended on Tuesday and now faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Moreno is scheduled to appear at a bond hearing on Thursday.
