James Heflin, 24, Apprehended After License Plate Reader Identification
FERNDALE, Mich. – James Heflin, a 24-year-old resident of Oak Park, was apprehended by Ferndale police for robbing a convenience store after being identified by a license plate reader. The incident occurred at a 7-Eleven located on 1040 W. Nine Mile Rd, where Heflin allegedly demanded money from the store clerk while armed with a knife.
Swift Police Response Enabled by Technology
Police response was expedited thanks to the utilization of advanced technology. A customer’s entry into the store disrupted the robbery, prompting Heflin to flee in a silver SUV. However, law enforcement swiftly identified the vehicle’s make and model, along with a description of the suspect, through the Flock system.
On March 21, officers received an alert from the system indicating that the suspect’s vehicle had entered Ferndale. Subsequently, a traffic stop was initiated, leading to Heflin’s arrest without any resistance. He now faces charges of armed robbery and has been assigned a $10,000 cash bond, with a court appearance scheduled for April 4.
