LOS ANGELES – The first storm of the spring season made landfall in the Los Angeles area on Saturday morning, bringing much-needed rainfall to the region. The National Weather Service characterized this storm as relatively moderate in terms of precipitation compared to previous weather events in Southern California this year.
Rainfall Forecast
The forecast indicates that rainfall amounts will vary across the area, with approximately a quarter to a half inch expected south of Point Conception and a half to one inch anticipated north of the region. The rain is forecasted to be relatively short-lived, lasting only a few hours in any given location. It is projected to commence overnight along the Central Coast, with precipitation reaching Ventura around sunrise and Los Angeles County an hour or two later.
Impact and Snow Levels
Authorities do not anticipate significant impacts on major mountain roads, including the Grapevine, as snow levels are expected to remain around 6,000 feet. This forecast provides some relief for travelers and commuters concerned about potentially hazardous road conditions.
Post-Storm Conditions
Following the rainfall, gusty west winds are expected to arise in coastal areas and the Antelope Valley, although they are likely to remain below advisory levels. Cooler daytime temperatures are also predicted, with highs around 61 degrees Fahrenheit forecasted for downtown Los Angeles on both Saturday and Sunday. Overnight temperatures will range from the 40s to lower 50s, dropping to the upper 30s in the Antelope Valley on Sunday night.
Continuation of Showers
The National Weather Service anticipates some additional light showers on Sunday before the weather system moves out of the area by Monday. Partially cloudy skies and mild conditions are forecasted for most of the week, with the possibility of more rain returning by Friday.
Weather Outlook
As the first storm of the spring season passes through the Los Angeles area, residents can expect cooler temperatures and periods of rainfall throughout the weekend. However, the forecast offers some reassurance with the expectation of improving weather conditions in the coming days and the potential for more rain later in the week.
