The federal recovery center in National City, established to aid businesses impacted by earlier flooding, will temporarily close its doors starting Monday, citing Southwestern College’s spring break. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced the closure, scheduled until April 2, in a recent release.
Center’s Purpose and Opening
The National City Business Recovery Center commenced operations nearly a month ago, aiming to assist businesses affected by the severe flooding on January 22. This initiative followed the approval of a major disaster declaration by the Biden Administration for San Diego County and other affected regions in California. The declaration unlocked funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), facilitating aid efforts.
Other Recovery Centers
Alongside the National City center, SBA officials also inaugurated two additional recovery centers: one at the Mountain View Community Center and another at the Spring Valley Library. While the National City site takes a brief hiatus, both of these centers will remain operational to provide assistance.
Assistance Available
At the disaster recovery centers, businesses of various sizes and non-profits can apply for loans up to $2 million to cover damages to real estate, machinery, equipment, and inventory. Moreover, additional funding may be allocated for measures aimed at fortifying against future disasters.
Application Process
Applicants can access the SBA’s online portal to apply for assistance. Alternatively, they can reach out to the SBA Customer Service Center via phone at 800-659-2955 or email at [email protected] for further guidance.
Support for Homeowners
In addition to business aid, the federal government offers low-interest disaster loans of up to $500,000 for homeowners to repair their properties. Further assistance of up to $100,000 is available for the repair or replacement of personal property, including vehicles.
Application Deadlines
Businesses seeking property damage loans must apply by April 19, while the deadline for economic injury loans is November 19, as per SBA guidelines.
