TUCSON, Ariz. – Authorities have released video footage depicting the fatal shooting of a sword-carrying individual in Pima County on Saturday, February 24.

The Pima County Regional Incident Team (PCRIT) made the video public on Friday, March 29. The video, bearing graphic content, provides insight into the incident.
Victim Identified: Devon Lewis
The victim, identified as Devon Lewis, aged 23, was fatally shot in Pima County on February 24, 2024. The incident occurred at a hotel situated in the 4800 block of South Palo Verde Road.
Events Leading to the Shooting
PCRIT reported that Lewis was initially reported for yelling and brandishing a sword in the parking lot of the hotel. Upon the arrival of Pima County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Lewis was found standing outside with the sword sheathed.
Following a brief exchange between the deputies and Lewis, he unsheathed the sword and charged towards the deputies. Subsequently, one of the deputies, identified as Ramon Morales, a one-year veteran of PCSD, fired at Lewis, leading to his demise. Other deputies then provided immediate medical assistance.
Investigation and Involvement of Authorities
PCRIT, in collaboration with the Tucson Police Department, is conducting an investigation into the shooting, with the latter as the lead agency. Additionally, PCSD will conduct a separate investigation to ascertain if any policy violations occurred during the incident.
