A tragic incident occurred in Wilkes County, North Carolina, resulting in the death of a moped rider following a collision with a pickup truck.

The North Wilkesboro Police Department reported that the crash transpired on Saturday morning. Peter Thiep Ding, aged 49 and a resident of North Wilkesboro, was operating a 2019 Vitacci moped heading west on US 421 Business. Simultaneously, a 2003 Nissan pickup truck was traveling east on the same road. Ding’s moped veered across the double yellow line into the eastbound lane, leading to a collision with the pickup truck.

Emergency services, including Wilkes County EMS and the North Wilkesboro Fire Department, promptly responded to the scene. Despite their efforts, Ding sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.
