Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Deputies have apprehended a man who attempted to evade law enforcement and sought refuge in a home’s crawlspace.
Alleged Domestic Incident Sparks Pursuit
The incident unfolded following reports of an alleged domestic incident inside a black Nissan Pathfinder involving 27-year-old Tristan Sammons, who was also wanted by Lafayette Police Department for theft.
At 11:34 a.m., deputies spotted the suspected vehicle near Highway 231 and State Road 28 South, confirming it as the vehicle linked to the reported battery involving Sammons.
High-Speed Pursuit Ensues
Authorities attempted a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Sammons, disregarded signals and continued east on State Road 28, initiating a pursuit through Tippecanoe County.
The chase traversed multiple roads before the Pathfinder veered off-road and into a farm field.
Crashing and Evading Capture
Exiting the field onto Montgomery County Road East 1100 North, Sammons attempted a turn onto South High Street in Linden but crashed into a tree. He fled on foot, leading deputies to a home on Water Street.
Crawlspace Hideout Discovered
With assistance from Indiana State Police and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputies, law enforcement established a perimeter around the residence. Verbal instructions prompted two individuals acquainted with Sammons to exit, revealing his whereabouts in the home’s crawlspace.
Arrest and Charges
Deputies forced open the access point and apprehended Sammons without incident. He faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Level 6 Felony in Indiana.
Sammons, uninjured during the incident, was taken to Tippecanoe County Jail. The crashed Pathfinder was towed to a Montgomery County lot.
