Chicago, IL – Virgil Gibson, 22, faces multiple felony charges after allegedly carjacking two individuals at gunpoint within a 30-minute period earlier this week. The incidents have sparked concern in the community about rising crime rates and the safety of residents.

Alleged Crime Spree

Virgil Gibson stands accused of committing two separate carjackings, both involving firearms, in different locations in Chicago.

First Incident

The first reported carjacking took place around 11:47 p.m. on Sunday in the 5900 block of South Morgan Street. Gibson allegedly approached a 32-year-old man and forcefully took his vehicle at gunpoint.

Second Incident

The second incident occurred approximately 30 minutes later, at around 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, in the 8300 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. In this instance, Gibson is accused of an aggravated carjacking and aggravated kidnapping involving a 35-year-old man.

Arrest and Charges

Following an intensive investigation, members of the Vehicular Hijacking Task Force apprehended Gibson around 12:33 p.m. on Tuesday. He has been charged with two felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, as well as one felony count each of aggravated unlawful restraint and armed aggravated kidnapping.

Judicial Proceedings

Gibson’s detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, where the prosecution will present evidence against him, and the court will determine whether he will remain in custody pending trial.
