TUCSON, Ariz. – Reports indicate that the popular discount grocery chain Aldi is considering opening a location in the southern Arizona area, specifically in the town of Oro Valley. While the town has confirmed Aldi’s interest, no official application has been submitted yet.

Aldi’s potential move to Oro Valley aligns with its broader expansion strategy. In March, the company announced ambitious plans to open 800 new locations across the United States within the next five years. This strategy includes both new store openings and conversions of existing spaces.

As part of its expansion, Aldi aims to increase its presence in key regions. Nearly 330 stores are projected to open across the Northeast and Midwest regions by 2028. Additionally, the company plans to expand its footprint in southern California and Phoenix. Furthermore, Aldi intends to venture into new markets, including Las Vegas.

The news of Aldi’s potential arrival in Oro Valley follows shortly after the announcement of another discount store chain’s closure. 99 Cents Only revealed plans to shutter all 371 of its locations, possibly creating an opportunity for Aldi to fill the void in the market.
