An Indianapolis man, Keith Cole, has been sentenced to 63 years in prison for the murder of Daniel Baxter during a traffic stop in 2020, as confirmed by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Incident

Daniel Baxter was fatally shot on October 8, 2020, while waiting at a stoplight at the intersection of East 30th St and North Keystone Ave. The evening of the shooting, Baxter’s vehicle was found crashed in the northeast corner of the intersection, with Baxter suffering from gunshot wounds and unresponsive.

Eyewitnesses at the scene identified Keith Cole as the perpetrator, describing him as the individual who exited a Black Dodge Charger parked directly behind Baxter’s vehicle and shot him five times. Surveillance footage corroborated these accounts, capturing the tragic incident as it unfolded at the traffic light.

Fleeing the Scene and Conviction

Following the shooting, Cole fled the scene but was later apprehended after being identified through surveillance footage. He was subsequently convicted after a three-day jury trial held in March.
