Streets Submerged, Drivers Stranded

Will Miller, a local resident, described the deluge as a lot of rain, highlighting the severity of the downpour. Miller encountered impassable roads during his commute home, forced to turn back at 75th and Binford due to flooding. In one alarming incident, a vehicle became submerged with water reaching the roof, illustrating the perilous conditions faced by drivers.

Neighborhoods Underwater

Areas beyond Indianapolis were also heavily impacted by the relentless rainfall. Hamilton County, including locales like Fishers and Lawrence, faced inundation, with roads transformed into treacherous waterways. Fishers Police Department issued warnings for key thoroughfares such as Hoosier Road, 106th Street at Hague and Allisonville, and Florida Road north of 104th Street. Laura Ritchey, a resident staying off Geist Bluff Drive, recounted waking up to over a foot and a half of water in her cul-de-sac. She described the scene as horrible, noting that her sister’s entire court resembled a lake.

Ritchey’s account underscores the recurring nature of the problem, dating back to the previous winter. Frustrated residents have lodged complaints with local authorities, attributing the ongoing flooding to inadequate drainage systems. They assert that clogged drains exacerbate the situation, impeding water flow and increasing the risk of property damage. Expressing concern for their safety, residents emphasize the urgency of addressing these infrastructure shortcomings before further calamity strikes.
