ELGIN, Ill. – The Elgin police department found itself under HazMat protocol following the discovery of an unknown substance on Tuesday morning in the northwest suburb.
The substance was detected at approximately 11 a.m. within a confined area within the department premises situated at 151 Douglas Avenue, as reported by officials.

Upon detection, the Elgin Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene. By approximately 12:30 p.m., they had assessed the substance and determined it to be non-hazardous, according to information provided by CPD.
