Las Vegas, Nev. – A tragic crash in the east valley of Las Vegas has left at least two people dead and several others injured, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred on Wednesday night at approximately 7:37 p.m. on Boulder Highway, south of Dalhart Street. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), a 2014 KIA Rio traveling northbound on Boulder Highway at a high speed veered off the roadway and collided with several fixed objects, including a RTC shelter where pedestrians were waiting for a bus.
The impact of the crash resulted in several pedestrians being struck and projected onto the roadway. Three of the pedestrians were rushed to UMC Trauma Center by ambulance for injuries sustained during the collision. Among them, one individual suffered life-threatening injuries, while the other two sustained serious injuries. Tragically, two pedestrians, a 42-year-old man and a 14-year-old teen, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspected Impairment Leads to Arrest
The driver of the KIA, identified as 64-year-old Cynthia Phelps, exhibited signs of impairment following the crash. LVMPD officers subsequently arrested Phelps on DUI-related charges. Although she sustained minor injuries in the collision, Phelps was taken into custody for further investigation.

LVMPD highlighted that this incident marks the 49th and 50th traffic-related fatalities within their jurisdiction for the year 2024. The authorities emphasized that the case remains under thorough investigation by the LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section.
