Alleged Misconduct and Assault

Warren, Mich. – Two former Warren police officers, Dammeon Player and Carlos Taylor, are facing escalated charges following a violent traffic stop outside their jurisdiction. The officers allegedly used excessive force when apprehending a semi-truck driver in Center Line on July 20, 2023.

Updated Charges

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office recently revised the charges against Player and Taylor. Initially, Player, aged 50, faced charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and public official willful failure to uphold the law. However, the latter charge was dropped, and a misconduct in office charge was added. This new charge carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.

Taylor, 28, initially faced charges of public official willful failure to uphold the law and assault and battery. In addition to these charges, he now faces a misconduct in office charge, also carrying a potential five-year prison sentence.

Legal Proceedings

Player’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 8, while Taylor is due in court on June 5. Both will appear in Centerline District Court to face the amended charges.

Accountability Emphasized

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido emphasized accountability in a news release, stating, No badge grants immunity from accountability, and those who abuse their authority will face the full weight of justice.
