A woman has been indicted on 16 theft charges amounting to over $56,000 worth of stolen goods from a local store in Multnomah County, Oregon, according to an announcement by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
Charges and Indictment
Janeice Renee Downs, aged 24, faces a series of charges including six counts of organized retail theft, three counts of first-degree aggravated theft, and seven counts of first-degree theft. The indictment by a grand jury on Monday follows an investigation led by the Organized Retail Theft Task Force.
Stolen Racecars
The incident came to light when Eddie Nakato, the owner of AR Motorsports, reported the theft of two prized racecars from his business premises on a Saturday morning.
Cross-State Theft Allegations
In addition to the charges in Oregon, Downs has been implicated in over $400,000 worth of retail theft in Washington state. Further charges are pending against her in multiple counties in Oregon.
Custody Status
Currently, Downs is in custody in King County, Washington, under the name Janeice Smith.
