BROWN COUNTY, Minn. – The Minnesota and Wisconsin Departments of Natural Resources (DNR) are urging the public to exercise caution and refrain from burning activities due to elevated fire risks. Multiple incidents in Brown County, Minnesota, have prompted authorities to seek information from the community about the potential causes of these fires.
Unprecedented Increase in Wildfire Calls
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has reported an alarming surge in wildfire incidents, with a total of 16 calls between March 1 and April 22, 2024. This spike contrasts sharply with the minimal fire activity recorded in previous years. In 2023, authorities responded to only one fire call during the same period, while two calls were reported in 2022.
Concentrated Incidents in Specific Areas
The fires predominantly occur in proximity to Wildlife Management Areas and other forested regions, raising concerns about their impact on local ecosystems. Notably, Mulligan Township has experienced a disproportionate share of these incidents, with five out of the 16 reported fires originating in this area.
Call for Community Assistance
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could shed light on the causes of these wildfires. Community members are encouraged to contact the Brown County Sheriff’s Office with relevant details or observations that may aid in the investigation.
Heightened Alertness and Preventive Measures
In light of the prevailing fire risks, both the Minnesota and Wisconsin DNR emphasize the importance of heightened vigilance and adherence to fire safety protocols. Individuals are advised to refrain from activities that could potentially ignite fires, such as outdoor burning, until the threat subsides.
Conclusion: Collaborative Efforts for Fire Prevention
The recent surge in wildfire incidents underscores the critical need for collaborative efforts between authorities and the community to mitigate fire risks and safeguard local environments. By remaining vigilant and exercising caution, residents can play a pivotal role in preventing further escalation of wildfires in affected areas.
