A tragic motorcycle crash in Hancock County, Indiana, resulted in the death of a local resident, Timothy Bossard, on Thursday night.
Details of the Incident
The New Palestine Police Department and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department responded to the crash scene at around 7:30 p.m. The incident occurred at the junction of US 52 and Creekside Drive, near New Palestine and the Hancock-Marion County line.
Bossard, a 60-year-old from Greenfield, was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on US 52 when the collision transpired. Reports suggest that a Cadillac Escalade, attempting to exit a nearby restaurant’s parking lot to join US 52, pulled out in front of Bossard. The impact caused Bossard’s motorcycle to strike the driver’s side of the SUV.
Fatal Consequences
Tragically, Bossard was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The driver of the Cadillac Escalade, while not seriously injured, cooperated with authorities. As standard protocol for fatal crashes, they voluntarily underwent a chemical test. The investigation, carried out by the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT), did not find drugs or alcohol to be contributing factors.
Road Closure and Safety Reminders
In the aftermath of the incident, a section of US 52 remained closed for three hours to facilitate the investigation.
Hancock County Sheriff’s Department emphasized the importance of vigilance for motorcyclists on the road. They also underscored the necessity for motorcyclists to wear helmets, a vital safety measure often correlated with reduced fatalities and injuries in motorcycle accidents.
Conclusion
The loss of Timothy Bossard serves as a sobering reminder of the risks faced by motorcyclists on the road. As investigations continue and safety precautions are reiterated, the community mourns the passing of one of its own.
