Law enforcement members in Fresno County paid tribute to Selma Police Officer Gonzalo Carrasco Jr. at the Peace Officers Memorial in Courthouse Park. The 24-year-old officer lost his life on January 31st, 2023, in the line of duty during an attempted contact for suspicious activity in a neighborhood.

Officer Carrasco’s name was added to the memorial’s wall, which commemorates all law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty in Fresno County since 1889. The unveiling took place during a solemn ceremony attended by fellow officers and community members.

This year’s ceremony coincides with the 26th anniversary of the memorial and is part of National Police Week, observed in the United States to honor local, state, and federal law enforcement officers. President John F. Kennedy established Peace Officers’ Memorial Day on May 15th, with National Police Week spanning the days surrounding this date.

Currently, the granite face of the Fresno County Peace Officers Memorial bears the names of 64 fallen heroes.
