Eleven individuals from the South Bay area are facing accusations of involvement in a racketeering conspiracy associated with a string of violent crimes, including murders, shootings, and drug and gun distribution. The indictment, unsealed by the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, alleges their connection to the Salinas Acosta Plaza Nortenos gang, which has ties to the notorious prison gang Nuestra Familia.

According to U.S. Attorney Ismail Ramsey, the allegations detailed in the indictment paint a picture of a group with a flagrant disregard for human life and a propensity for extreme violence. The accused are purported to have committed numerous crimes aimed at furthering the objectives of the gang, including acts of violence used as initiation rituals and punishment for attempting to leave the group.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

While the defendants face various accusations related to violent crimes, they are collectively charged with racketeering, a charge commonly utilized in prosecuting organized crime. Racketeering charges allow prosecutors to consolidate related offenses into a single case. If convicted, the defendants could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

As per court records, nine of the defendants have entered pleas of not guilty, with arraignment pending for the remaining two. A pretrial hearing for the nine defendants who pleaded not guilty is scheduled for June 11. The defendants, aged between 19 and 38 years old, are accused of participating in criminal activities aimed at advancing an ongoing criminal enterprise under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

The indictment includes allegations of eight murders committed over the past five years, along with numerous attempted murders and arson incidents, such as the firebombing of an apartment. The victims of these crimes reportedly include individuals perceived to be associated with rival gangs, transient individuals, and those believed to have disassociated from the Salinas Acosta Plaza Nortenos.
