In a recent incident in Long Beach, Calif., a 17-year-old suspect involved in a home invasion was fatally shot by police. The suspect, identified as Brandon Ramon Salgado from San Bernardino, met his demise during an altercation with law enforcement on April 26th.
Home Invasion Robbery Turns Fatal
The incident unfolded around 8:35 p.m. on the 6800 block of Cerritos Avenue, where Long Beach police responded to reports of a person with a gun. Upon arrival, officers discovered an ongoing home invasion robbery. The suspect, armed with what appeared to be a firearm, was still present in the yard of the residence.
Attempted De-Escalation
Long Beach police attempted to de-escalate the situation by engaging in dialogue with the armed suspect for over an hour. Despite efforts to peacefully resolve the encounter, the situation escalated, leading to the involvement of a SWAT team.
Fatal Encounter
The encounter took a tragic turn when the suspect was shot by police. Though the exact circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. Despite immediate medical attention from the Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, the suspect succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital.
Discovering an Accomplice
Following the incident, detectives uncovered that the deceased suspect had an accomplice who fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Identified as Iskay Mota, an 18-year-old from Modesto, he was subsequently apprehended and booked on suspicion of robbery.
