The victim, identified as John Mills, was crossing Shelbyville Road from south to north when he was struck by a shuttle. The family of the victim confirmed to WDRB that Mills worked as a security guard at the tournament.

Despite the legal issues, Scheffler returned to the golf course later in the day and resumed his activities. He is scheduled to appear in court in Louisville on May 21.
