WICHITA, Kan. – Tattoo enthusiasts and artists alike are flocking to Century II this weekend for the RiverCity Tattoo and Lifestyle Expo, marking the first significant tattoo event in Kansas in nearly two decades.
Overcoming Regulatory Hurdles
After extensive planning and a zoning adjustment by the City of Wichita, the event kicked off on Friday to much anticipation. Steve Roseberry, the executive director of the expo, highlighted the challenges faced in organizing the event, stating, It’s taken over a year and a half just to get the laws modified, get the zoning code changed, get Century II to approve what we’re putting on, and then make sure we meet all requirements with the Kansas Board of Cosmetology.
A Diverse Showcase of Talent
Approximately 50 tattoo artists from across the state are showcasing their skills at the expo, offering live tattooing sessions. Alongside them, cosmetologists, barbers, and body piercers are also providing their services. Notably, the event features a tattoo reality TV star among its lineup of artists.
Creative Competitions and Vendors Galore
Throughout the weekend, attendees can witness a range of competitions, including unconventional categories such as Biggest Mustache and Worst Tattoo in Kansas, judged by the esteemed tattoo artists present.
In addition to the artistic showcases, the expo boasts numerous vendors offering a variety of merchandise, including clothing, artwork, and handmade goods.
