Louisville, Ky. — A tragic incident occurred in the Jacobs neighborhood on Saturday afternoon, leaving a seven-year-old child in critical condition and a 13-year-old hospitalized after they were struck by a car. According to reports from Louisville Metro Police (LMPD), the incident took place in the 3600 block of Parthenia Avenue around 3:25 p.m. The driver, identified as Katherine Hall, 19, allegedly was driving at high speeds when the collision transpired.
Details of the Incident
LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis stated that Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported both children to Norton Children’s Hospital. The seven-year-old boy sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently listed in critical condition, while the 13-year-old girl’s injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Response and Arrest
Following the collision, Hall reportedly stopped briefly before attempting to flee the scene. However, an off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy located both Hall and her vehicle not far from the accident site. Residents in the vicinity of the intersection have raised concerns about speeding vehicles, describing it as a recurring problem.
Neighborhood Concerns
They run that stop sign daily doing 40 or 50 miles an hour, they don’t care, said Liddy Cleary, a neighbor. They don’t miss them, they intentionally run them, that’s the problem. Hall was subsequently arrested and faces charges including assault, failure to maintain required insurance, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Louisville Metro Department of Corrections booked Hall on Saturday evening. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the crash. LMPD’s Traffic Unit is leading the investigation into the incident.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to adhere to speed limits, especially in residential areas where pedestrians, including children, are frequently present.
