Nashville Fire Department Responds
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A dramatic rescue operation is unfolding at a Nashville rock quarry as emergency responders work to save a base jumper stranded after a parachute malfunction. The Nashville Fire Department (NFD) rushed to Whites Creek Asphalt rock quarry on Whites Creek Pike following reports of the trapped individual.
Challenging Terrain
The base jumper, who leaped from a high ledge, found himself stranded approximately 300 feet below the quarry’s rim after his parachute failed to deploy correctly. Negotiating the rugged terrain proved challenging for rescue crews, requiring the removal of brush and the felling of trees to reach the stranded individual.
Delicate Rescue Efforts
Emergency responders, including firefighters and specialized rescue teams, are employing intricate techniques to access and retrieve the injured base jumper safely. The operation involves the deployment of ropes, pulleys, and heavy equipment to lower a stokes basket and secure the individual for extraction.
Condition of the Jumper
NFD spokesperson Kendra Loney confirmed that the base jumper sustained injuries, although the extent is yet to be determined. Medical personnel are on standby to provide immediate assistance once the individual is brought to safety. Despite the ordeal, the jumper remained conscious and responsive until his cell phone lost power.
Legal Implications
Loney clarified that the quarry is private property, surrounded by fencing and warning signs. Any potential legal ramifications stemming from the incident would be addressed by the Metro Police or the quarry owners.
