NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A string of thefts in downtown Nashville has ended with the arrest of a suspected professional pickpocketing couple from Texas. Miledis Gomez Fonseca, 30, and Andy Alberti Diaz, 40, both from Houston, are believed to have been involved in numerous thefts from customers at popular bars over the past few months.
Arrest Details
On Saturday, May 25, security personnel at Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar on Broadway spotted Gomez Fonseca and Diaz around 1:30 a.m. The Metro Nashville Police Department’s Entertainment District Unit was alerted, leading to the couple’s apprehension.
Investigation and Charges
Central Precinct detectives had been tracking the couple for weeks, reviewing surveillance footage that reportedly showed them engaging in theft. The suspects allegedly used credit cards obtained from stolen wallets to make purchases across Middle Tennessee.
When questioned, Gomez Fonseca reportedly admitted to having four cell phones and two wallets, stolen from patrons at Jason Aldean’s and Kid Rock’s bars, in her purse. Authorities have since returned both wallets and three of the phones to their owners.
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office reported that Gomez Fonseca and Diaz are being held in the Downtown Detention Center. Each faces two misdemeanor counts of theft for property worth $1,000 or less, and one felony count for theft of property valued between $2,500 and $10,000. Their bonds are set at $55,000 each.
However, Metro police stated that both individuals are jailed on $80,000 bonds, with additional charges expected as the investigation progresses.
Safety Tips for Visitors
Authorities advise anyone visiting Nashville’s bars and entertainment venues to keep their cell phones, purses, and other valuables in their possession at all times. Items should not be laid down or draped over the backs of chairs or barstools.
