FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Arizona Snowbowl, the renowned ski resort nestled in Flagstaff, is breaking records this year by extending its ski season into June for the first time ever. Thanks to heavy late-season snowfall and a continued high demand from enthusiasts, the mountain will keep several trails open until at least June 1.
Unprecedented Move
This decision marks a significant departure from the traditional ski season in Arizona, typically ending in early spring. However, the abundance of snowfall this year has created exceptional conditions, allowing Snowbowl to cater to skiing and snowboarding aficionados well into the summer month of June.
Trail Maintenance Efforts
Trail groomers at Snowbowl have been working diligently to maintain the trails, ensuring optimal conditions for visitors. Despite the warmer temperatures typical of late spring and early summer, skiers and boarders can still expect quality runs suitable for all skill levels.
Current Conditions
As of May 25, Snowbowl had 13 out of its 55 runs open to the public. Although the Arizona Gondola lift was temporarily closed due to high winds, visitors could still enjoy a range of trails with lift tickets available for purchase on the Snowbowl website, some priced as low as $19.
Extended Skiing Season
This extension of the skiing season presents a unique opportunity for enthusiasts to enjoy their favorite winter sports amidst warmer weather conditions. With the possibility of skiing or snowboarding in short sleeves and shorts, visitors can experience a rare blend of winter and summer activities in one outing.
Conclusion: Embracing the Unexpected
Arizona Snowbowl’s decision to extend its skiing season into June reflects both the unpredictability of weather patterns and the adaptability of recreational facilities to meet evolving consumer demands. As visitors flock to the mountain to seize this unprecedented opportunity, it underscores the resilience and innovation within the skiing industry.
