Unlike neighboring cities like Lincoln and Roseville, which have built bypasses to divert traffic from SR-65, Wheatland continues to contend with heavy traffic, including logging trucks and local commuters navigating through its downtown core. This sustained traffic flow has taken a toll on the 1.4-mile segment, resulting in deteriorating conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.
Infrastructure Improvements
Caltrans District 3 Acting Director, Sergio Aceves, highlighted the project’s objectives, emphasizing its role in enhancing connectivity, supporting economic vitality, and improving overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike. The project includes comprehensive upgrades such as pavement replacement, enhanced shoulders, improved pedestrian and cyclist pathways, and the renovation of four drainage culverts and curb ramps to comply with ADA standards.

One of the key additions will be a new traffic signal at the SR-65 and McDevitt Drive intersection, aimed at improving safety and traffic flow in the area.
