LAS VEGAS — Overnight, firefighters rushed to Laura Dearing Elementary School in the east Las Vegas valley in response to a fire incident.
Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) crews and Clark County School District (CCSD) police were alerted just before midnight Thursday to the blaze at the school located on Ferndale Street near S. Lamb Boulevard and E. Vegas Valley Drive.

Assistant Fire Chief Danny Horvat of CCFD reported that the fire occurred in a section of the school currently undergoing demolition. Fortunately, this area contained minimal combustible materials and lacked utility connections, factors that helped prevent the fire from spreading further. No individuals were inside the affected building at the time of the incident.
Damage Assessment
Initial assessments indicate damage to the roof, doors, and windows of a classroom building situated on the west side of the school campus. The estimated cost of the damage is approximately $25,000.
