State Auditor Keith Faber has opted against delving into the alleged fiscal irregularities within the city, while buyouts totaling approximately $170,000 were disbursed to two officers earlier in the week.

In response to mounting concerns, State Auditor Keith Faber has decided against initiating an investigation into the alleged fiscal irregularities within Circleville. Matt Eiselstein, a spokesperson for Faber, communicated that after careful consideration, no potential criminal violations were identified. Consequently, the issues will be redirected to the standard state auditing process to address potential noncompliance and control matters.

Mayor and Law Director’s Plea

Circleville Mayor Michelle Blanton and Law Director Kendra Kinney sought intervention from Faber, expressing concerns over various financial practices, including improper spending, unauthorized expenditures, and unbid contracts. Although Faber’s decision pertains solely to matters within his investigative jurisdiction, it leaves unresolved the allegations of falsified firearms training test results among Circleville officers, currently under scrutiny by the attorney general’s office.

Meanwhile, Circleville Auditor Mark Bidwell disclosed that former Chief Sean Baer and Deputy Chief Doug Davis received buyout payments, encompassing compensation for accrued but unused leave time. Notably, Baer and Davis were subject to suspension for potential misconduct, prompting City Council’s approval of the buyout arrangement.
