Around 7:30 p.m., authorities responded to reports of a disturbance involving approximately 15 individuals near Nieto Avenue. According to a witness who captured video footage of the incident and shared it with the Long Beach Post, the gathering initially started as a baby shower but escalated due to excessive alcohol consumption. During the event, a dispute arose, leading to a violent confrontation. The witness recounted that a man from that group decided to assault his girlfriend, and then she retaliated by striking him with a chair, right in the presence of children at the party.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers encountered a chaotic scene. A woman allegedly used a glass bottle and a chair as weapons during the altercation. Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Eric Stachura stated that the situation intensified when the first officer on the scene witnessed the man kicking the woman. Despite attempts to de-escalate the conflict, the man refused to cooperate, prompting the officer to utilize a Taser for his arrest.

As additional officers arrived, both individuals involved in the altercation were taken into custody. They were subsequently booked on suspicion of domestic violence, with additional charges including public intoxication and resisting arrest for the man, and battery for the woman.
