Andrea Cardenas’ attorney, Pedro Bernal, mentioned that his client applied for unemployment insurance during the specified period, a practice seen in millions of Americans due to the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the period in question, Andrea worked as the Director Of Community Affairs for Grassroots Resources, a political consulting firm. Meanwhile, Jesus was employed as the Principal Consultant at the same firm. Grassroots Resources also allegedly obtained a fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan amounting to over $170,000, intended for employee payroll during the pandemic. However, it’s purported that the funds were misused for personal expenses, including financing Andrea’s city council campaign.
