Arizona Forestry and Fire Management lends a helping hand
Phoenix, AZ – With Texas grappling with widespread wildfires scorching over 1.2 million acres in the panhandle region, Arizona Forestry and Fire Management has dispatched a team of 11 personnel to aid in firefighting efforts.
Cooperation Across State Lines
Tiffany Davila, Public Affairs Officer for the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, disclosed that Texas authorities reached out to Arizona’s coordination center seeking additional resources and personnel to combat the escalating wildfires.
The Arizona team, comprising two fire engines and eleven skilled individuals, is deployed across various wildfire zones in Texas, either actively engaged in frontline firefighting or providing supervisory support.
A Record-breaking Blaze
As of the latest reports, Texas is battling four active wildfires, collectively engulfing approximately 1.25 million acres of land. The Smokehouse Creek Fire in Hutchinson County stands out as the largest wildfire in Texas history, spanning over an estimated 1 million acres with containment efforts currently at 15%.
Tireless Efforts Under Challenging Conditions
Operating on demanding schedules, the Arizona firefighters commit to 14 or 21-day assignments, working grueling shifts lasting between 10 to 16 hours. Despite the fatigue, these dedicated professionals remain steadfast in their mission to contain and extinguish the raging infernos.
Davila emphasized that the Arizona department frequently extends assistance to other states during emergencies, reciprocating support when needed. With Arizona experiencing relatively low wildfire activity presently, the deployed personnel seized the opportunity to assist Texas in their time of need.
Potential for Further Support
Acknowledging the evolving nature of the wildfires, Davila hinted at the possibility of deploying additional personnel to Texas, contingent upon the developments in the fire situation over the upcoming days and weeks.
