Jamall Mayfield, a resident of Jacksonville, has been apprehended by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for the alleged kidnapping of his granddaughter, Tahiry Brown, 3.
Following more than 17 hours of intense search efforts, Brown, who had gone missing after being dropped off at a babysitter’s residence Sunday afternoon, was thankfully found safe.
The Incident
According to reports, Mayfield visited the babysitter’s residence to see his granddaughter. Subsequently, the babysitter, upon observing Mayfield’s alleged state of intoxication, requested him to leave the premises.
Kidnapping
At a point during the interaction, Mayfield reportedly took the child from the house. Several hours later, they were picked up by a woman at a nearby park due to the hot weather conditions.
Previous History
This is not Mayfield’s first brush with the law. He has a prior arrest record, notably in 2012, for alleged child abuse.
Response and Charges
Mayfield is facing charges of interfering with the custody of a child or incompetent person – knowingly kidnap or entice.
