Suspect Arrested for Stealing Lawn Mowers in Del City, Oklahoma
Del City Police have apprehended a man accused of stealing multiple lawn mowers from residences within close proximity to each other.
Alleged Crimes Unfold
The purported incidents occurred on May 13th, with the first theft reported around 12:30 p.m. that afternoon. The stolen lawn mower, valued at $450, was reportedly taken to a pawn shop conveniently located across the street from the police department.
Alert Manager Foils Sale
The manager of the pawn shop noticed similarities between the stolen mower and one reported missing on social media and to law enforcement. After taking a photo of suspect Michael Salinas’ ID and the mower, the manager declined the sale and alerted the victim.
Victim’s Account
One victim, Guadalupe Baza, recounted how security cameras captured Salinas stealing the lawn mower from her backyard. Despite having never experienced issues prior, Baza expressed dismay over the theft.
Swift Response
Police attributed the swift arrest to images shared by Baza, which facilitated the identification of Salinas’ vehicle by FLOCK cameras.
Admission of Guilt
Salinas confessed to stealing both Baza’s and another victim’s lawn mowers during an interview on May 16th. He also admitted to utilizing Facebook to sell one of the stolen items.
Salinas is currently detained at the Oklahoma County Jail, facing charges including grand larceny, violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act, possession of stolen property, and petit larceny.
