In recent days, Chicago has seen a surge in ATM thefts, with two incidents reported in different neighborhoods, raising concerns about the safety and security of local businesses.
West Town Incident
In the early hours of Thursday morning, an alarming scene unfolded in the West Town neighborhood. Three individuals, purportedly males, orchestrated the theft of an ATM from a gas station located in the 1500 block of West Grand Avenue. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects arrive in a white sedan around 3 a.m.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the perpetrators forcefully entered the gas station premises, forcibly removing the ATM and loading it into their awaiting vehicle. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the incident. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, leaving the investigation in the hands of Area Three detectives.
Logan Square Heist
This brazen spree of ATM thefts didn’t stop there. Earlier in the week, a similar incident occurred in Logan Square. Around 3 a.m. on Monday, three suspects targeted a business located in the 2400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. Utilizing a method akin to the West Town theft, the perpetrators broke through the glass door of the establishment and made off with another ATM.
Once again, the Chicago Police Department is actively investigating the incident, aiming to identify and apprehend those responsible for this audacious act of theft.
Heightened Concerns and Community Response

With criminals targeting ATMs, often in the early hours of the morning, there is a pressing need for enhanced security measures and vigilance within these communities.
In response to these incidents, community leaders and law enforcement agencies are urging residents and business owners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly. Additionally, authorities are exploring strategies to bolster security around ATMs to deter future thefts and ensure the safety of the community.
