Chicago police are investigating a tragic hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a cherished CPS employee, shaking the Jones College Prep community to its core.

Tragic Incident Unfolds

On Sunday night, tragedy struck in Chicago’s West Lawn neighborhood when a 56-year-old man, identified as Charles Charlie Mills, was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. The incident occurred at 11:45 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Pulaski Road.

Details of the Incident

Eyewitnesses reported that a red Toyota Camry, traveling northbound on Pulaski, struck Mills as he crossed the road. Shockingly, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop after the collision, leaving Mills with severe head and body trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charlie Mills, a dedicated special education classroom assistant, had been a pillar of the Jones College Prep community for an impressive 23 years. Principal Kerry Dolan fondly recalled Mills’ unwavering dedication and infectious positivity, describing him as kind beyond words and a true servant leader.
