Louisville, Ky. – A Jefferson County Public Schools bus driver, Rarlando Ramsey, was arrested over the weekend on charges of assault and strangulation following an alleged incident in the Parkland neighborhood early Saturday morning. The charges are unrelated to his employment.
Alleged Incident Details
Court records reveal that officers responded to the scene and found Ramsey atop a woman beside a dark-colored SUV. Upon intervention, investigators discovered that Ramsey and the woman, identified as his girlfriend in court documents, had been engaged in an argument after departing the Double Deuce bar at Broadway and 26th Street around 4:30 a.m. on May 18.
The woman reported to the police that Ramsey had begun hitting her and pushed her to the ground after leaving the venue where the altercation had started. In an attempt to escape, she bit Ramsey while they were both on the ground. It was then that Ramsey allegedly restrained her by putting his arm around her neck causing her not to be able to breathe.
Legal Proceedings
Ramsey appeared in arraignment court on Monday, where a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. The judge set his bond at $2,500, with his next court appearance scheduled for May 29.
Ramifications on Employment
Following the incident, JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan issued a statement stating that Ramsey would not be operating a school bus in accordance with their policies and procedures.
