Early Friday morning, a truck driver in Philadelphia found himself at the center of a disturbing incident when a group of assailants stole boxes of crabs from his trailer and assaulted him. The driver reported waking up to the commotion, only to be met with violence when he attempted to intervene.
Heist Details
The theft took place on the 4300 block of Byberry Road around 5:30 a.m., according to authorities. The victim, who was sleeping in his truck at the time, was startled awake by the movement of his trailer and discovered approximately a dozen men loading boxes of crab into four SUVs.
Assault and Theft
Upon confronting the thieves, the driver was met with physical aggression. The group of assailants reportedly punched and kicked him before fleeing the scene. In addition to the stolen cargo, they also took the driver’s cell phone.
Stolen Cargo
Approximately 100 cases of snow crab were taken during the heist, adding to the growing number of cargo thefts reported in Philadelphia.
According to data provided by police, this incident marks the 53rd cargo theft in the city this year alone.
