Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood witnessed a tragic incident as an 8-year-old girl lost her life and 10 others were injured during a shooting at an outdoor family gathering.
CHICAGO – Following a Shotspotter alert in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on Saturday night, Chicago police discovered multiple victims with gunshot wounds in the aftermath of a mass shooting.
Details of the Incident
Witnesses reported a black sedan pulling up and firing multiple shots into the crowd gathered for a birthday party outside. The assailants utilized assault rifles and handguns, leading to a devastating outcome. A police report indicated the recovery of 75 shell casings from the scene, highlighting the severity of the incident.
First responders initiated lifesaving measures, including the application of tourniquets and chest seal bandages. Tragically, an 8-year-old girl sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Comer Children’s Hospital. Among the injured were three other children, with one-year-old and eight-year-old boys listed in critical condition, and a nine-year-old boy in good condition with a graze wound to his hand.
Victims’ Injuries
Seven adults also suffered gunshot wounds, ranging from moderate to critical conditions. The injured adults were transported to various hospitals across the city for treatment of their injuries.

- A 38-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his heel.
- A 36-year-old male sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his arm and back.
- A 26-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her thigh.
- A 40-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her leg.
- A 30-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her forearm.
- A 19-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her leg.
