Xavier Becerra, First Latino HHS Secretary, Addresses Graduates

United States Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra graced the occasion as one of the distinguished guest speakers. Notably, Becerra holds the distinction of being the first Latino to assume this pivotal position in American history. Prior to his federal appointment, Becerra served as California’s attorney general from January 2017 to March 2021.

During his speech, Becerra emphasized his personal connection to the immigrant experience, citing his parents’ journey. He also spotlighted the achievements of several students, among them Kerman Mayor Maria Pacheco, who graduated from the College of Health and Human Services.
