A 9-year-old girl sustained a gunshot wound to her leg in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant in North Philadelphia, adding to the ongoing gun violence affecting the city’s youth.
Incident Details
The shooting occurred around 6:15 p.m. at the McDonald’s parking lot located at the intersection of Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue. The victim was walking in the parking lot with her mother’s boyfriend, identified as 32-year-old Derrick Marshall, when the incident transpired. Marshall’s firearm discharged accidentally, striking the young girl in the leg.
Victim’s Condition and Response
Following the shooting, the girl was promptly transported to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where she was listed in stable condition. Initial treatment was provided at Temple University Hospital before she was transferred to St. Christopher’s. Law enforcement authorities are currently holding the vehicle used to transport the victim as part of their investigation into the incident.
Suspect and Charges
Derrick Marshall, the boyfriend of the victim’s mother, is facing charges in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and other related offenses. Officials believe the shooting was accidental in nature.
