A concealed carry holder in Chicago’s northwest side exercised his Second Amendment right to self-defense when he pulled out a gun during an altercation, leaving three attackers critically wounded. The incident unfolded late Friday night in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood, specifically in the 4700 block of W. Wrightwood Avenue.
Altercation Turns Violent
According to police reports, a 43-year-old man found himself in a verbal dispute with three individuals he was acquainted with. The altercation quickly escalated into a physical assault, with the three men attacking the victim.
In response to the assault, the victim, who was a licensed concealed carry holder, drew his firearm and fired shots at his attackers. The confrontation resulted in serious injuries, with each of the assailants sustaining critical gunshot wounds.
Victims Suffer Severe Injuries
Among the wounded, a 29-year-old man suffered five gunshot wounds to the torso and was rushed to Mt. Sinai hospital in critical condition. Another victim, aged 22, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to Masonic hospital in critical condition as well. Additionally, a 55-year-old man was struck in the neck and also transported to Masonic hospital with critical injuries.
The concealed carry holder himself also endured injuries from the altercation, including blunt force trauma to the head and body. He too was hospitalized in critical condition.
Police Recover Handgun
Law enforcement officers recovered a handgun at the scene, confirming that the victim was indeed a concealed carry permit holder. The presence of the firearm likely played a pivotal role in the victim’s ability to defend himself against the attackers.
