Two victims of a Dallas chain-reaction crash have filed a lawsuit seeking $10 million in damages against Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice and SMU cornerback Teddy Knox. The suit, brought by Edvard Petrovskiy and Irina Gromova, alleges severe injuries resulting from the collision.
The Incident
The crash occurred on March 30, with Rice and Knox allegedly involved in a high-speed collision on North Central Expressway. Dashcam footage reportedly shows Rice’s Lamborghini SUV and Knox’s Corvette striking several vehicles. According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Rice’s vehicle was traveling at 119 miles per hour, while Knox’s Corvette reached speeds of 116 mph before slowing to 91 mph just before impact.
Legal Action
Petrovskiy and Gromova, who were in their Lexus 350 SUV at the time of the crash, suffered injuries including brain trauma, facial lacerations, bruises, and internal bleeding. Their lawsuit seeks $1 million for medical expenses, pain and suffering, mental anguish, and property damage, with an additional $10 million in punitive damages.
Allegations
The plaintiffs’ attorney, Sanjay Mathur, highlights the defendants’ alleged recklessness, stating, It’s one thing to speed and to contest yourself and slow down, knowing that it’s time to back off. And it’s quite another thing to race somebody else and have your ego involved.
Response and Legal Proceedings
Following the crash, Rice, Knox, and their passengers reportedly left the scene. Photos obtained by TMZ Sports show them departing despite calls for emergency assistance. Both Rice and Knox turned themselves in to Glenn Heights police and face charges including aggravated assault and collision involving serious bodily injury. While Rice will continue with the Chiefs’ offseason program, Knox has been suspended by SMU.
Conclusion: Seeking Justice
As legal proceedings unfold, Petrovskiy and Gromova’s lawsuit underscores the serious consequences of reckless driving. Their pursuit of justice serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability and responsibility on the road.
