COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the wake of last week’s destructive tornado, Delaware County is extending a helping hand to impacted families. On Friday, March 22, a post-storm assistance event will take place at the Galena Village Hall, situated at 109 Harrison Street, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Agencies Providing Support

A coalition of vital agencies will converge at the event, ready to assist residents coping with the aftermath of the tornado and severe weather that struck Delaware County on March 14. Among those organizations scheduled to attend are:

• American Red Cross
• Delaware County Veterans Services
• Delaware Public Health District
• United Way of Delaware County
• Village of Galena
• Other community nonprofits

These entities will engage with affected residents, assessing their housing and clean-up needs and offering available assistance.

The Impact of the Storm

The severity of the situation prompted the Delaware County Commissioners to declare a state of emergency on Monday. The National Weather Service confirmed the presence of an EF1 tornado in the area. According to the Delaware County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the tornado caused damage to at least 254 homes and businesses, with 25 of them sustaining major damage.
